Artist's Statement
From Dale Beckman's statement:
“The landscape is usually the beginning point for me,” he writes. “The painting is the art work and it is ment to have a life of it's own, seperate and distinct from some location in the world. I am not trying to duplicate what I see. I use the landscape as only a reference point to enter the painting; abstraction takes precedence over replication as a means to go to a deeper level than what is perceived by the eye. When I was young, I was attracted to the work of artists Charles Burchfield and Vincent Van Gogh. I think I liked Charles Burchfield's work because he often portrayed sound and movement with paint. When I realised that visual art could give expression to elements that are invisible, I began my excursion into abstracting the world in an effort to represent energies that a quantum physicist might examine.”
